Ever wonder if they listen?

I have often wondered if my kids ever truly listen to me. The other day I got my answer and it put me in my spot pretty quick and reminded me again why I want the kids to know the things I want them to know.


These verses have stuck with me recently


Luke 6:30-36
Give to everyone who asks you, and if anyone takes what belongs to you, do not demand it back. ³¹ Do to others as you would have them do to you.
³² “If you love those who love you, what credit is that to you? Even sinners love those who love them. ³³ And if you do good to those who are good to you, what credit is that to you? Even sinners do that. ³⁴ And if you lend to those from whom you expect repayment, what credit is that to you? Even sinners lend to sinners, expecting to be repaid in full. ³⁵ But love your enemies, do good to them, and lend to them without expecting to get anything back. Then your reward will be great, and you will be children of the Most High, because he is kind to the ungrateful and wicked. ³⁶ Be merciful, just as your Father is merciful.


Tanner and I have had discussions and one day Tanner made a comment about doing something for someone. I didn't feel like it would be my place to be involved and I told him he and his sister could. He looked at me and said "Mom, you are always telling us to do something nice for others and you do nice things for others. Why don't you want to help?"  I tried to explain to him my reasons and his reply was simple "You are always telling us to be the better person. So be the better person."


Wow, he was right.


It doesn't matter what I think, be the person I am suppose to be and expect nothing back in return. No matter who it is. No matter what that person has or hasn't done to or for me. Be the person God intended me to be.


It humbled me to know that Tanner is listening and wanting to be the person God intended him to be.
